Resolution Rituals, to Do or Not To?

To many cool intellectuals, the year end may not mean much.
I hear people say, "it's just another year, same old same old, big deal, what's all the fuss about" and much more.
And to the many sentimental folks, the year-end is a huge deal. They go all out in style and sometimes even pompously celebrate the closing of a year-dutifully every year.
To each our own, but we all have some year-end ritual, don't we?
Not having a ritual is also a ritual by the way, don't you think? Wink wink
The concept of a year-end is a deliberate human construct designed to help us track and measure the invaluable resource known as "TIME".
The 12 months of our calendar year are systematically organized according to the Earth's orbit around the sun, a practical approach established for our benefit. This structure serves as an enduring template passed down from our early ancestors, empowering us to plan, structure, and maximize our time on Earth effectively. In cosmic terms, nothing shifts; the Earth's orbit remains constant and uninterrupted. Thus, the belief that a year comes to an end is purely a mental construct within our human experience.
While I may be skeptical about making New Year's resolutions or celebrating the transition in packed venues with strangers, I firmly believe in the importance of establishing my year-end rituals. And I like to have symbolic beginnings to the illusion of a new year, as we have been giving in to it for so long.
A new year symbolizes a critical transition, delineating the end of one chapter and the start of another journey spanning the next 12 months. It is a crucial opportunity to pause, reflect, plan, let go of the past, close old chapters, and embrace new beginnings.
I've learned that time is not linear; rather, it is a cyclical experience that demands our attention for growth and renewal. A constant "kung fu" if you will of creation and destruction.
Every year for the last decade I have had rituals that have sky-rocketed my growth.
I will now share some of it with you my dearest growth seeker, with hopes of igniting a spark of growth in your already beautiful journey.
Switch on your focus and sit your luscious bottom down for the next 27 minutes, and hold that focus till you finish the next 3 rituals, to experience an instant magical shift !
If you have ever been coached by me, you know I am all about getting you to take action "NOW", not later, not tomorrow, but in this present moment. You have witnessed the power of that with me, but for those of you who haven't, I want you to block out the next 27 minutes (or as long as you need) without postponing, ruminating or ignoring this. If you were looking for a sign, this is it !
Get your Pens and journals out, and let's begin !
1. From your head straight onto the paper:
I want you to write down your wins and losses of this year categorically.
Start with your losses, and make your way to your wins. Yes, it will trigger you honey and real growth should. But don't you dare stop, keep writing.
Post writing all your heavy thoughts onto paper , I recommend marking the start of your new chapter with an extended experience. For example : I took myself dancing solo in my gorgeous vegan leather skirt and vegan boots on a fine Thursday evening, with no alcohol.
You can do something like a trek, a year-end wardrobe change, a walk in the rain or anything that makes you feel free, lighter and stronger for the next season of life.
2. Deep clean your life:
I highly recommend that you dedicate a day to cleanse your house, your emails, your digital life and your non-virtual one too. Create 3 categories: - Discard - give away/sell - keep.
Give away everything that you no longer use, because you will never use it again, I promise.
Give away things that may be conforming you to a past image of you, or someone else, a memory that causes grief, shame, fear or guilt or something that is holding you a victim to the past.
Discard, and burn things that don't pollute the earth, but are polluting your mental-emotional growth and joy. Let go for good.
I am not a fan of selling, I like giving away but you can sell to make your wallet heavier and your heart, home and, mind lighter. I thank old items and wish the next user good luck when I do.
Keep only what can help you grow and rise in your current life, Not for the near future. The future is created in your head NOW.
Vacuum clean your mind by letting go of items, and possessions no matter how expensive, sentimental or valuable, if it's draining you, you let it go.
Like I always say in my RESET course, “For new water to flow into your life, you need to clean the stagnant mosquito-infested muddy water.”
I gave away my favorite couch in pristine condition to a senior dog shelter, gave away my best clothes and shoes to young girls starting their careers earning very little, I sold one of my couches for 5,000 INR and used 3,000 of it to pay for my part of the treatment for our community dog who has severe skin issues. I got myself a nice cotton kurta from "FabIndia" for the rest.
3. Plan your life, to align to your actions accordingly:
This is my personal favourite ritual, and it gets me super excited, like a child at a candy store. The next few lines are going to make me sound a bit boastful but bear with me as I humbly validate myself through the words my coaching clients often use:
I am not asking you to plan your entire year like I do. The kind of personal goals I have, as a sought-after Coach who always delivers life-altering transformations, I have to plan the year to balance my schedule with my existing clients, still leaving room for life’s surprises, fun events and a handful of new clients. I just want you to plan mindfully in alignment with your goals.
I am not asking you to create a vision board, but a small intentional plan for the next 12 months of your life.
"Life hack: 80% of what you write down, is more likely to come true, than the ones that you let boil over in your head"
4. Build something new, finish something due, or release something old,
The final ritual for me is to either build a new habit, buy a new course, let go of an old habit, or finish whatever tasks, or courses are due.
This year I chose to finish reading all my unread books staring at me every day.
I have started a new ritual of planting a seed, with every small win I achieve from here onwards.
I let go of this mindset of feeling resentful towards friends who celebrate me in silence but discard me in public. I deserve to be celebrated loud and wholeheartedly in private and in person. So instead of tolerating this energy, I decided to release my negative feelings towards them, because I am here to grow and better myself, not to change others
That felt like a mini master class didn't it ? A small but new step to the new chapter ! and here's to hoping that this was a nudge in the right direction for you to begin as well ! I would love to know how your 27 minutes went, you can reach out to me on the platforms mentioned below !
